Birthday Weekend Part Deux - Oh my!
My lovely sister planned the second half of the weekend extraordinaire! We were supposed to go to a food demo? But Tyler and my train was late, so we missed that and headed over the Beehive with Jess and Shannon. Had a great time there - my favorite drink - the Persian Kitty. Positively delicious! Wonderful gifts (Thank you!) and then we headed over to 28 Degrees. I had my birthday headband just made and picked up from the porch by Jess! Thanks, again! People showed up to celebrate, we had food, drinks - frozen bellinis are amazing, btw!And , Surprise! There was a drag show! It was great! The place was packed. This is one of two amazing ladies at the show. The second did a running split slide! Wa-hoo! We ended up the night at Geoffrey's, where the dessert and shots and waitress were great - we told her about Brown Bird, I wonder if she went!
I MIGHT show you more pictures of this night...but probably not!

Amazing soup and drinks and atmosphere. I could have moved in and had the seating area as a living room. Mexican wedding cookies were petite and wonderful. Service was great. Tyler kept grumbling that I stop taking pictures, but how would I show you all this?

Frenchmen - Day
So we never really thought we found Frenchman. We had to ask to make sure we were in the right place. Not too much to look at during the day. Not busy, quiet, short street. Good murals and you could tell it had a meaning for later.
Stopped in at 13. Open air bar, was like a garage with the doors wide open. It was a beautifully sunny day some shade and a breeze and a drink. I was sold on the special sign though - frozen Irish coffee - how can you pass that up?

There is a pelican in this picture! |
One for the bar, one for the road, grabbed my second Irish coffee, and we were off again.

Jackson's
Stumbled up this beauty of a bar. Saddled up to the bar, beautiful hardwood everywhere, bartender and guy at the end of the bar started chatting us up, asking us where we were from. Bartender is from Missouri - the one that told us about the open lot sales and that he about to embark on a large scale community garden project. Also told us about a similar project in Philly that we will have to check out.
The man at the end of the bar walks around and gets coffee from behind the bar...And then tells us he owns it! Are you Mr. Jackson? I ask? No, I'm Mr. DDD. I don't remember. He lives in Louisiana now, before that Florida, before that Providence RI and N. Conway NH. Said he hadn't been to his house in Conway in 10 years! In the ship building business, running the bar, and got a business venture going on back in Providence. Even knew some folks from Somerville! Small Small World!
The bartender made us all sorts of fancy drinks. They were on the menu (but not online!), and beautiful. Full of fresh herbs from their rooftop garden. Love at first sip. I have GOT to get the recipies. Rosemary and thyme and other things. Yum.
The bar was beautifully and fancifully appointed. Woodwork with beeding, beautiful original beams, local artwork flavor. We found out from the bartender that the bar used to be a horse stall! Back when, houses were built close together and the space in between got a roof and horses. Leads to beautiful intact architecture. And some great additions from the current proprietor.

Oh and this is where I learned about "To Go" cups! Revolutionary to our trip!

The original 'out house' from when the space was a barn stall. The management uses it now as an office space. |

Upstairs. This place had two floors, and a separate private dining space (behind me and to right from this vantage point). |
